No bank will issue you Credit Card before you get a fix job, not only CIBC. But you can apply for a checking account and obtain a convenience card.

When I asked a bank clerk for applying MasterCard, she refused me because at that time I was unemployed.

First, try apply on the website, if you get rejected, try to talk the clerk in the bank, you may need to deposit some money say $1000 for one year to get your credit card

good for you. BOM's student credit card is the first credit card in my life, around that time most other banks wanted the applicants to be canadian citizens.

Although TD is free of commission, but once you are using Interace in the shop, you will realise that it is not easy to find TD POS, then you have to pay 1.75 for every transaction. SO there is always pros and cons.
