  • 工作学习 / IT杂谈 / We use internet and emails.... not kidding
    本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Folks

Each company has its own policy. Some companies have very strict control over internet/email usage.

I post an email accouncement from my company. For some reasons, I did some twechincal treatment

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    Ladies and Gent,
Per John Woodhead's direction please send this to EVERYONE in your group
    ASAP

    XYZ Family,

Once again, let me remind everybody of the abcd Policy of ZERO tolerance for internet / e-mail abuse. If you are caught (and you will be
caught) for ANY internet / e-mail abuses, you will be terminated period,
    no ifs, ands or buts.

Folks this is not hard - don't use company assets and company time
to use the abcd internet /e-mail systems for other than company work.
We in XYZ are the IT people in this building, we are all knowledgeable on
how these systems work, we all know how easy it is to monitor activities
on these systems. But, more importantly, we all know the difference
between right and wrong. To use your time on the internet by doing
non-work related activities is wrong and it's fraud - time card fraud, and
    you will be caught.

No one is a stronger supporter of the people in XYZ than I, but in
cases of internet /e-mail abuse, I will be the first one to walk someone
out. We all know what we should be doing while we are here. We all know
what we get paid to do, so let's do our jobs, the best we can and not do
something we will regret for the rest of our lives.

    Thanks everybody,

    • In this case, the employer must be paying good money to you guys. If not, start your job searching campaign again.
    • A true story
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛My friend told me the following story: They had a Chinese guy. This guy is poor technically. In addition, his working attidtude was poor, too. Nobody in the group liked him.

The manager wanted to get rid of this Chinese guy. However, he needed some strong excuse because he did not want to create any legal dispute.

One day, another Chinese guy mentioned that the first Chinese guy liked to visit pornagraphic sites. The manager kept this in mind.

The manager had the networking guy monitor the network traffic in the company.
Very soon, that Chinese guy was caught on the spot ... and he was walked out.

Chinese culture is different from that in Canada. I hope dwarf's posting can be of some reference value to new immigrants.
      Absoluely no kidding!

If I work in dwarf's company, I won't complaint. Since I am techinically strong, I may choose leave. If my technology is not good enough to find a new job, I choose to leave there and follow the rule.

Another tricky thing is about software. In some company, if you install your own software and be spotted, you will be asked to go home immediately. We should try to understand the risk: If you install a pirated software in a company and it is reported by some other colleague, the company will face bankruptcy!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
      • very good points.
I heard a guy at Lucent Chicago got to know a girl under 12 or 14 on internet and dated her in real life. Later the police arrested him and the company sent notice to all employees and asked them never to visit sites they shouldn't visit at work. Respect the company, and respect yourself.
