To my knowledge (very little), QC still has some textile factories, mostly making garment. I don' t know if there is any yarn processing factories though. Are you familiar with synthetic fiber process, e.g. polyester, nylon?

As these processes are chemical engineering or polymer engineering focused, to be more accurate, you may have a good chance switching to petroleum industry.
