It appears to be fixing one problem by creating another problem.

When someone don't agree with their biological gender, there are problems with their mental system.  No matter how successful it is, there are three ways: To fix their mental issue; To fix their physical body to satisfy their mental need; And, to do nothing.

People may argue that the first and the third ways could let them suffer.  However, talking about long term and social factors, I doubt the second way is a good one.
