  • 今年经济不好了,我们却超级的忙,都5月了还没见天日呢。唉。。看到有同学准备考SOA, 给出点我的经验和建议。大半夜的写出来,希望能给备考者点小小帮助。

    2. Spend 80 minutes to write a case and at least spend 2-3 hours to debrief. Debrief is a learning process, it is better than you read the handbook. You can get familiar to those principles which you are not quite sure with.

    3. When you debrief your cases, for those indicators you got them, you need to get the ideas from the solution how you can make them better. For those you missed, you have to know why. What you should do next time in order to not miss them.

    4. Allocate your time equally. Never go over time, even when you are doing the practice. Use securexam to practice. Talk about everything a little bit, you will pass for sure. (This is a big difference for SOA from UFE).

    5. Outlining skill is very important, especially for pass UFE, but you need to practice start from SOA. You can pass SOA without an outline, but not UFE.

    6. When you do the outline, put time you plan to spend on the margin in order to control time effectively. Never go over time. If you plan to spend 15 minutes to talk about assurance, stop and move on after 15 minutes. You don’t have to try to write more. I always think in this way, in these 15 minutes, I only can write this much, nobody can write more than me, so don’t bother to spend more time and waste your other indicators.

    7. For me, my English writing skills really suck. But in SOA and UFE writing, it is my advantage not disadvantage. I cannot write those long sentences as income tax act, so I only use bullets points. I don’t have to write a full sentence sometimes. All this save my time to make things simple and clear. Nobody test your spelling, grammar, etc. Only your presentation of the understanding of the case. For each indicator, 3-4 bullets would be enough. That’s mean 3-4 sentence (maybe not even sentence).

    8. Adding case fact. This is easy to say and hard to do. I give you a little example to show how it works. (ie. PM issue-revenue recognition). If you say: since good were delivered, it is measurable and collectability is assured, so we can recognize revenue. You get a NC, because no case facts being mentioned. If you say in this way: since good were delivered in such such date, the service is rendered. The price is fixed, so it is measurable. The customer is in good financial condition, so no collectability issue (or no indication of collectability issue in the case). So we can recognize revenue at whatever time. You get a C.

    9. Remember there always one case among the 3 cases that is harder. Probably nobody can finish properly within 80 minutes. There always one case is very simple and straight forward, but if you don’t have enough time you cannot do it well. That is how they trap people. Always stop your case at the suggested time period and start the next one. At the end, if you have time left you can go back to add some more salt on the hard one. For last year’s 2 practice exam, I got 6, 3, 3 (overall 3) for the 1st practice, and 1, 6,1 (overall 1) for the 2nd one, so you can see even I did pretty bad on one case, it doesn’t affect my overall. If I try to spend more time on the hard one, I will lose my advantage in the other 2, this will affect my overall docile. One of my friend got 4, 7, 7 (overall 8) in the first practice. You can see from here how the docile worked. Try to keep yourself above average or at least among average.

    10. Last but not least, study smart, study hard, and good luck.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • Timing is very important in writing these cases, I guess. Very insightful advices!
    • wonderful, very good insight and i like the way u made an example to point out the rev rec clearly. You did good on practices... did u score consistently on the final?
      • I got 3 in my final. I think it is kind of consistent, since the 2nd practice was kind of easy and everybody did it very well. I always keep the same style no mater I was writing a practice or an real exam.
        • thanks thanks !!!
