From my time to time work experience with the management, I can see why you mention all those soft skills. However, my current position doesn't require a high level of these skills. For example, the professional discussion between me and program managers is far different from that between the finance director and the product group managers. I was called to prepare some analysis when there is a "crisis', but assigning task and supervising the progress is not my business. If I do an objective assessment today, I don't meet the standard of the senior position. Then, what shall I do?
I guess we can all improve ourselves during the work or, let's say, stretch a little bit. On the other hand, some may find the stretch is too big, and is way beyond their comfort zone. The question now becomes how could I know I have the potential to move to the next level?
Many thanks for sharing your insights.
Kind regards.
