Today’s Trending in dictionary Merriam- Webster

Merriam-Webster is one of the websites that I always keep opened as long as my computer is on. If I face some words I don’t know, which for sure happens many times each day, I look them up in the dictionary. You can have a quick quiz and see how your vocabulary is. It provides some programs like Games, Word of the Day, Word at Play, etc. In a nutshell, it’s useful, helpful and fun. The sad thing is, after testing, I always know the conclusion: I am an illiterate.

It also provides word’s trending every day; you’ll know what words are looked up each day driven by news events, celebrities, sports, and more.

On July 24, 2019, the Mueller’s hearing was hottest in the internet. Accordingly the word “Purview” was the number one word on the trending list. Thanks for Mueller, I learned a new word today.

Purview: has a number of possible meanings; the one most applicable in this setting is “the range or limit of authority, competence, responsibility, concern, or intention." Other possible meanings of the word include “range of vision, understanding, or cognizance," “the limit, purpose, or scope of a statute,” and “the body or enacting part of a statute."

It’s normally used as: outside the purview of, beyond one’s purview of, within the purview of…

By the way, another word on top looksup in this dictionary was "exculpated", I knew it now as well :)
