To Tweety (Duck) and numnum---TN visa and practical training

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I know Tweety is a duck. :-) .

1) TN visa is nicer than H1-B. If a USA company decides to hire you now, you can drive your car, carrying your offer letter, to a US entry point directly. If nothing is wrong, US INS offcicer will issue a TN visa immediately or ask you to pick your visa second day. However, if you change an employeer, you need to drive back to Canada and re-enter USA. Anyway, it is a little bit trouble some but it is not too troublesome.
More importantly, if you cannot stay in USA for some reason, you can go back to Canada because you are a Canadian citizen. This is what I meant by "back-up".

2) Practical training is for newly-graduated students. It is good for one year, in which these students DO NOT need to pay taxes. It is a hallway that leads the student to real employeement. Not all the graduates can find a job immediately. So practical training is a grace time for newly-graduated students, even they haven't got a job. If you are on practical training, the employeer can hire you immediately. However, things are not so pleasant at present. Many newly-graduated MS degree holders in Computer Science are doing their practical training in Chinese restaurants, delivering carry-outs or taking orders. In such a case, if one cannot push himself, he may never get the opportunity to do computer jobs in the future.

In fact, the people from countries other than China and India can settle down in USA quite easily. But those who come from India and China have to be pinched by the toughness of life in USA.

Hope this is a helpful information.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
