I landed in 1993 with my parents, and got an F-1 right after. I remember in the Toronto consulate, they were quite suspicious of people with CS major, even if you have full financial aid from the school. They asked a lot of questions on my tie to canada.Because my parents and sisters were all permanent residents living in Toronto, so I was fine, but it was still a surprise. For other majors, I think it's much better , as long as you have a full scholarship from the school. I knew a couple of them got F-1 very easily, without any relatives living in Canada.
