Canadian-born Chinese youth Focus group!
We are China Project Office at Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, currently working on a research project “Intra-group Dynamics and Social Exclusion: Experience of Mainland Chinese Immigrants to Canada”. The current stage of this research aims to gain better understanding of the friendship circles and social interactions of Canadian-born Chinese youth in Greater Toronto Area. We would like to invite you to participate in a focus group interview.
Who Can Participate?
1) Your cultural background is Chinese;
2) You were born in Canada, or immigrated to Canada before 5 years old;
3) You are 18-30 years old;
4) You are able to provide consent in Chinese, Cantonese, or English
Where and When?
The focus group will be taken place in our Faculty building (next to St. George subway station). It will take approximately 2-2.5 hours, with 6 to 8 participants in each group.
Compensation?
To show our appreciation toward your participation, we will offer you a grocery store gift card of $20.
What Questions Will Be Asked during the Study?
We will ask you about your friendship circle (e.g. How did you build up your friendship circle), peer relationship, relationship with different Chinese communities and your opinions about the interactions among Chinese communities.
What Type of Personal Information Will Be Collected?
No personal identifiable information will be collected and all the information provided by you will be kept anonymous. You can refuse to answer any question that you do not feel comfortable with. You can also choose to withdraw from the focus group any time until the end of the focus group.
