In South Asia, there is no English way of "th" sound. But they do have a "t" and "th". The "t" is same as English "t", but the "th" is like the Mandarin "d" (not the English "d").

To Chinese ears, English "d" and Mandarin "d" are the same (but actually not). That's why Chinese ears would hear it as "dirty", but an English ear would hear it as "tirty".
