That is a very good point. What I meant was that Linux can occupy an extended partition and on that partition you can have as many logic partitions as you want for /, /home, /usr etc. filesystems.

Unlike any other unix for PC which uses a self contained partition that will be further divided into filesystems, linux's partition scheme is the same with dos.
