The Ministry of Multiculturalism and Immigration recently announced, in
partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Association
of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, a new
initiative to address issues surrounding the recognition of foreign-trained
In turn, the Foreign-Trained Engineers Pilot Project was recently launched
to help qualified engineers get their licence to practice and secure work in
their profession. This Pilot Project is intended to provide support for
both employers and foreign-trained engineers. It will also tackle the larger scale institutional barriers that prevent skilled immigrants from working to their potential. If successful, the Pilot Project will provide an opportunity to develop services that can be applied to other occupations in the future.
The Pilot Project is still in the research and development stage. We are in
the process of developing selection criteria for possible candidates to participate in the Pilot Project. Currently, we have a list of foreign-trained engineers who have shown an interest in the Pilot Project and would like to participate in the Pilot Project. However, there are no guarantees that people on the list will be successful in becoming a part of the Pilot Project.
