Some time ago, I mentioned "ground meat" in one of my notes. Indeed, I met two persons who misunderstood the meaning of the word "ground". Actually, if you are a careful person, you may have also see some phrases such as "home-ground coffee" and "100% stone ground whole wheat bread". If you don't believe me, go to the grocery and have a look at those bread loafs.
A good language learner should try to understand the meaning of the words within some contexts. On the contrary, TOFEL and GRE takers just need to learn the words by heart.
