don't be too optimistic, only time can change your mind. No matter how well you have done, how open your mind is, you are labelled with "chinese", which to whose caucasions, means a race that is "inferior, cheap, lack of confidence, selfish" .

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I have been hanging around in US and Canada for more than 8 years, I hold a Master degree in CS from UCLA, I am a canadian citizen, I make
150K plus hundreds of thousands shares of the company common stock. Do you think I am happy? NO!!

The longer you stay here, the more successful you are, the better you will understand that you don't belong here. We can't blame those caucasions for the discrimination in their mind. What would you think if you see lots, lots of poor people from other countries who don't care about anything but themselves rush into your homeland, grab your jobs,
influence your neighborhood with their own exotic culture? Chinese immigrants ourselves are the very source of this sadness. Some of them don't take pride in being chinese, they want to be real "canadians", or real "Americans". They lost their identities when trying to think themselves as "canadians" instead of chinese. BIBI is too optimistic about "merging" into canadian culture. He will know better and better after he comes here that he will never be able to accomplish this "merge", the only thing that he will eventually find out is that he has
lost his pride, root, and identity. I went to UCLA at the age of 21, I was a teaching assistant and spent 3 years in graduate school , teaching undergrads some low-level CS courses. How bad do you think my English could be? Let me put it this way, I can appreicate the most subtle jokes in the comedy channel, I can talk to fellows in our company
about shakespear. Do you think I can "merge" into the canadians?
No!, I am not able to and I am willing to. Only an individual who has the faith in his own race, who takes pride in his own people, and who faces the fact who he is with great appreciation can be respected by the society.

Some people said, we came here not for ourselves, but for our next generation, our children. Let me talk about our kids here.
As one of the founding engineers in the company, I have recruited many talented young canadians. Two of them are canadian born chinese. They both graduated from U of T, they are very good at what they do. However, do you think I will put them in the critical positions? NO! Because they don't have two most important characters to the success-
confidence and agression. You have to be confident in yourslef and agressive in what you do to survivie in this Hi-Tech industry. Because we are both in 20s, we have become pretty close after work too. I have learned that they usually only hang around with Asian kids in high schools, and in college. Yet they never wanted to be chinese, sometimes they may have forgotten that I am a chinese too and made fun of those who speak chinese on the street. They have grown up with this kind of contradiction. Do you want to have a kid who will grow up in the contradiction, humiliation. No!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
