I've been with Bank of America for several years and never paid a cent for ATM transfer (within US) and checks (requiring a minimum $1000). Cashier's check is free, too, 3/mo. I also had experience with another

smaller bank, which waiver my bank fee for one year. CIBC, on the contrary, requires a minimum of $1000 for free banking of a limited amount, but there are some service charges almost every month. Royal bank charges a flat fee for limited services.

Today I bought a money order in CAD from a bank, for my wife's application fee. The rate is 1.52978 and the comminssion fee is 20USD. So 60 CAD cost me 59.22USD. Almost 1:1.
