about study in toronto -- answer to all the friends

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Hi, there,

Sorry for my late response! As I don't have a good mood these days!

I was accepted by U of T and U of Western Ontario for management program at the same time! I was so happy! When I was just dreaming about becoming a full time student in any of these two famous universities in Canada, I got a very bad news! As I haven't lived in Ontario for 12 months, so I am not qualified for full student loan. That means, I can get the federal loan, but not the provincial loan. The maximum amount for federal loan is only $ 5169 per year! That's not a big amount for me. Tell you the study expense. Annual tuition is $4000 +, 1000 for book, 3000 for housing, food, transportation, others... It will cost about $ 10K a year. As I got some advanced credit, so it will only take me about 2.5 to 3 years to get my bachelor. That's at least $30K for the full study. The worst thing is, if I enrol as a full time student this year, and get the student loan, then I will never get the full loan, as the government requires people should have lived in Ontario for at least one year, before they study full time. So I was so frustrated and upset!

Though I got a quite good job now, and I am taking the Canadian Securities Course ( CSC) which can help me in the future job hunting, I am still eager to be a full time student of u of t! But I have to face the fact. I don't have much saving. I can't borrow money. So I can only wait. Up to now, I am still struggling, whether I should enrol as full time or not.

For the application procedure, which many friends are interested in, my experience is as follow, hope it will be helpful.

As a landed immigrant, if you want to apply for the undergraduate study, you should apply as early as possible, you'd better apply before March 1st. I was late, when I applied, it's already the end of March. It's not good. Because you can't enrol in the Co-op program which is very hot here. Co-op program offers you job when you study, then you can accumulate working experience and get more money.

First you should get an application form fr the u, as you should fill in the form , and send it to the ontario u application centre which is located in another city, Guelph. You can choose three choices about u in your form. Then the center will pass your material to all the u you applied. Then the u will send you their own application form. You should submit TOEFL score, universities transcript, reference letter, and fill in the application form. All the information they quire. Then wait. Oh, yeah, you should pay $ 140 for the Ontario centre and $50 to U of t and $ to u of w.o.. ( for my case).

If your material is not completed, they will inform you what they need. Don't worry. Usually you will get answer fr the beginning of June, if you don't hear fr them until the end of June, you should call them and ask.

Sounds easy, right?

Wish you could apply smoothly and have a happy life, no matter in China or in Canada.

Actually I am missing China so much now. You can't even imagin.

If you have any question, don't hesitate to ask me. You are always welcome. The only thing is, I can't reply on time, as I still don't have my own computer now. Sorry about that.

Your friend, lumlum
