Terror suspect named
ONE of two foreigners said to have acted as ringleaders of a terrorist group accused of plotting to blow up targets in Singapore carried a Canadian passport in the name of Jabarah Mohamed Mansur. The Canadian Press Agency revealed this in a report on Wednesday, quoting an unnamed intelligence source.
Singapore's Internal Security Department had named the man only as 'Sammy'. It said he was one of two men aided by members of Jemaah Islamiah, and they videotaped locations.
'Sammy' - believed to be an Arab and linked to the Al-Qaeda network - and the other foreigner, identified as 'Mike', also sought 21 tonnes of ammonium nitrate to make truck bombs.
Canadian High Commission First Secretary Ben Paquin said in Singapore yesterday: 'Canadian authorities will provide Singapore with any assistance it requires in pursuing this investigation.' --Bhagyashree Garekar
