The working time is supposed to be 9am to 5 pm. When I arrived 9:10 am, i usually was the first one in the lab. Some brought their breakfast with them and ate in the lab. 10 am was the "morning tea break", which could last 30-60 minutes, depending on the discussed topic. 12pm was the luch time. Eating lunch, drinking coffee and chatting. 2:30pm was "the afternoon tea break". After 4:00pm almost everyone was gone.
The whole summer is the vacation season.
My professors always criticized the tax policy. His income tax rate is 70%! I met a old Chinese guy. He worked for 6 months every two years to keep the walfare. There was little difference for him to work or not.
North Europe is the real socialist society. In Denmark, it is impossible to become a millionair. The highest income tax rate is 95%! Every real rich person has to found a foundation to deal with that.
