Few new projects, few openings, no interviews!

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I have been home for 2 weeks. So far, no single interviews. Partially because there are few openings, and partially because my boss has to sell me through some big agents.

I myself got an interview for next Monday. One of my students was hired by a Healthwell Company recently, and her company needs a senior person to mentor its team. Originally, her boss did not want to interview me because he was afraid that I (my company) would charge them heavily. To pursuade her boss to give me an opportunity, my student used the following words: "We can use him for 2-3 three months and then let him walk away. We may take his advantage." Right, I really hope they would like to take my advantage.

Right now, many IT and companies use www.brainbench.com to test the candidates before setting up an interview. If you cannot get a good score in such tests, you won't have many opportunities. One of my former colleages was required by a consulting company to take a test covering
Java, JSP and Servlet, XML and XSLT, SQL. If one is not at senior level, it is almost impossible for him/her to get a senior job. One of my friends claims himself as a senior guy. He told me he suffered a big Waterloo in a recent job interview. He was asked to answer the questions covering
Erwin, UML, Rational Rose, EJB, JSP, Data Structures and some basic concepts such as stuck and heap. (70% of Java programmers cannot explain stack and heap. Is my estimate too aggresive?)

Opportunities still exist. But the employeers are more careful now. Novices have few opportunities. I know many friends have been unhappy with those people who have few true skills but make a big money by cheating. Now I can say that the life is fair. I feel easy though I have not got a single interview in the past two weeks. At the same time, I understand the things may get worse and worse. Be on guard!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
