Sooner or later, we may need others to do job references for us. Sooner or later, we may be asked to do job references for others. We must be very careful in evaluating our friends and/or colleagues.
The first question I was asked is "Do you know why Jay lost his job at XXX company?". My answer is "Their project is gone. Because of funding problem, their project has been dead. The whole team has been dismissed. You may have already received resumes from Jay's co-workers".
The second question is "How well does Jay go along with his teammates?". I answered, "He is a very good mixer. He is easy-going.
In particular, he is very good at playing jokes. I have been learning from him".
The third question is "How is his verbal communication?". Here is my response: " His English is quite good. At least, his English is much better than mine. Of course, Jay speaks English with a Chinese accent, just as I do. But I do not see any difficulties as he discusses the project issue with other people".

I have done a lot of job references for others. But I still don't have a clear idea about what I should say and what I should not say. Hope some friends can contribute new ideas. Thanks.
