Jabber's English Note---063

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛For a new immigrant in Canada, he/she needs to buy a car sooner or later. Well, after we really own our first car,
we are immediatelty faced with some paper work. Regarding this, we need to have a commanding of some basic concepts.

First of all, we need to buy a title for our car, which carried our ownership. Actually, whatever important property we have, say a house, we need to have a title. Of course, w edon't need a title for a microwave or VCR player, because they are personal belongings, not exactly properties.

In the car title, we can a very long VIN. A VIN (Vehiecle Identification Number) is just like a SIN, which is designed to identify vehicles uniquely.

Then, we should see some receords about our car's make, model and type. A car's make means which company made the car. Your car's make may be Toyota, Honda, Ford, Acura, Lexus, Caddilac..... Each car maker has a series of models. For instance, Toyota has the following models: Tercel, Corola, Camry, Avalon, and Honda has the following models: Civic, Prelude, Accord, ... If you are a persitant English learner, you may learn a lot of English words from the car models: Celebrity, Legacy, Neon, .....

In most cases, our car is a 2-doored or 4-doored sedan. Sometimes, people may drive a wagon, or minivan, or a sports utility.
If we spend some time on this, it will help us greatly in talking about the cars with the people. Of course, not all the people are interested in the car. I am not strongly interested in those new car models but I have a general common sense on the car. For example, I know Boxter is very expensive, Toyota Camry is No 1 amon the family cars, Caddilac is also called Caddy among the native English speakers. To survive, we have to learn a lot of things that we are not so much interested in.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
