Obviously the little girl does not like her grandparents. Because the geographic distance between the little girl and her grandparents, the grandparents have little impact in her life. To her, they are strangers speaking different language. They come to visit her parents, not her. No wonder she thinks that they should stay in hotel. The mother should explain to her beforehand that her grandparents are coming and will stay with them. Her mother should also explain to her that grandparents are family members and tell her more about how they raised her mother. Show her pictures, teach her some simple greetings in Chinese. Let her accept them as part of her family. This is such a sad fact. The only thing we can do is to create more opportunities for the grandparents to be there while the child grows.
Even in the Western country, if family members are close, usually the visiting members will not stay in hotel unless they want to. I know a couple with three grown-up children. All their children are married and have two or three kids. Christmas is a family gathering time, all kids bring their sleeping bags with them while they visit their grandparents. The accommdation is that all kids "camp" in the family room or living room.＜本文发表于: 相约加拿大:枫下论坛 www.rolia.net/f ＞
