form and content

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛as a female, I am easily attracted by a film's form instead of its content. my favorites are always those with beautiful pictures. one of my favorites is 'the mood for love' by wangjiawei. I donnot think there is something in this film. mr. wang is just trying to tell us an old-fashioned love story. perhaps there is something ethical in it, but what attracts me is not the story itself. what I really enjoy are the compostions of every picture, the color, the fabulous variety of qipao and the delicate act of both the actor and the actress.

as for the hollywood films, they tend to pay more attention to the form. the scene is always splendid and the costums are always dazzling. take the new advertised 'moulin rouge', from all the talk shows and its advertisement, you can catch a glimpse of its grandiose scene. though it is another stereotyped love story, yet I am really got caught up at the first sight. it just gives such a visual impact on me.

in order to keep up with the international pace, more and more directors in china now focus so much on the form. the pioneer is zhangyimou. his first film 'honggaoliang' is a perfect composition of form and content. the endless corn field and the swiftly swinged red cloth really gave me so much pact and also gained mr zhang great fame. and now he seems to go to another extreme. his recent 'wodefuqinmuqin' is totally a display of light and scenery. it just likes a slide show of scenery card. yet it is also my favorite film.

it seems that the shallow mind is usually attracted by the form, but would you please introduce me a perfect film with meaningful content? that must be hard for you to find one.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
