VB is still useful. But the pay is not so good.
In particular, you should be able to do OO programming using VB. My VB friend told me if you do VB, the company always wants you to know DAO, COM, DCOM....
Of course, some lucky guys find a job simply because they can do some GUI things using VB. The life is complicated, opportunities are different before different people.
