My alternatives to white rice and white bread

Now I seldom have white rice.  Sometimes I have brown rice and whole wheat, but more often I have the followings:

Green split peas are tasty, good to mix with others.

Black matpe beans are from India.  It has mild flavour, also good to mix with others.

Desi chick peas is my favourite.  I enjoy its flavour very much!

Split red lentils are very easy to cook.  It takes less than 15 minutes, and it's tasty!

Black glutinous rice can be mixed with others too, and it will dye the whole pot of porridge to dark color.  I don't use a lot each time.

Red kidney beans is perfect for roasting with turkey drumstick or wings!   It takes longer time to cook.

Split mung beans are also easy to cook.

Chia seeds are said to be healthy.  But it's so expensive!  You may add one spoonful to the porridge mix.

Probably you know quinoa already.  It's good, but also quite expensive.
