DEPARTMENT: Information Technology and Services
JOB TITLE: Technical Support Analyst
REPORTS TO: Manager, Information Technology and Services
LOCATION: Administration Centre

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Ensure the continuous availability of all computer technology equipment to support the delivery of systems to the Township’s business units.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer and maintain the Township’s computer technology systems including telecommunication networks, fax, copiers and phones. Provide technical expertise for the installation of hardware and software, recommend solutions to the Township’s data processing and technological requirements, and provide assistance to employees in the use of information technology as required.

PROGRAM SERVICES:
· Install new hardware, including servers, desktop computers, terminals, printers, network equipment, network cards, drives and cabling to ensure that employees, located in various sites throughout the Township, have the equipment necessary to perform their day to day jobs.

· Create and maintain user accounts and groups, associated permissions, etc. on the Township’s Windows servers to ensure that users can access all required information, that data remains secure and that available technology resources are allocated in an efficient manner.

· Administer and maintain the Township’s servers to support intranet, Internet, GIS and other application requirements.

· Ensure that the procedures are in place for backing up and restoring data on all systems by creating or modifying and testing backup/restore script files as well as configuring client server database programs to interact correctly with the backup routines. Perform the procedures when required and assist users in the implementation of proper procedures where applicable.

· Maintain software distribution CD's/diskettes and license library to ensure that software products used on the Township’s information systems are both current and meet required license agreements.

· Configure application software, operating systems and hardware for optimal performance and reliability.

· Perform preventative maintenance on information systems and technology to minimize downtime and maximize performance to ensure maximum productivity from users.

· Create and maintain system documentation, user manuals etc. when required to ensure that information systems and network configurations are documented and current.

· Perform repairs to technology components when necessary and make arrangements with third parties to repair systems when appropriate.

· Install new and upgraded versions of software and operating systems on stand alone and in a network environment as to meet user requirements. Where in-house installation is not possible, arrange for and supervise the installation of new products to ensure that systems are installed properly and in a timely manner.

· Assist users with system related problems in order that they may accomplish their day-to-day computer tasks. This includes deleting print jobs, reassigning forgotten passwords, helping an employee assist with a specific task in a program and/or modifying the programming code in an existing program.

· Provide support for the phone systems.

· Set up and maintain the inventory of all IT equipment and workstations, maintain all support calls which consists of tracking the calls, when they are solved, who is responsible and the time it takes to resolve each problem and what the solution is.

· Maintain the information and applications on the Township’s corporate intranet.

· Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Township Health and Safety policy and procedures, as well as any established industry guidelines.

· Stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION
· Degree in Computer Science, and post-secondary school education ideally in the Information Technology field.
EXPERIENCE
· Minimum three years experience in a local and wide area network environment.

· Certification in Microsoft NT Administration and Microsoft Office is preferred.

· Detailed knowledge of MS Office, Windows NT Workstation/Server and Windows 2000 Workstation/Server is preferred.

· Skilled with Arcserve backup software

· Strong customer service and written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong team player.

· Able to effectively function independently.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT
· Municipal office conditions in multiple locations. (Drivers license required)
CONTROL OVER WORK SCHEDULE
· Thirty-five hour work week.
