STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS:
FUNCTION/FONCTION
Responsible for developing programs and database functionality in various computer languages to support content goals and applications of CBC websites. Also responsible for the coordination of activities within the technical development team for the “My CBC” and Scheduling Database project, as well as the technical design for the “My CBC” application.
DESCRIPTION
1) Creates the application design for the “My CBC” project, in conjunction with the functional design team and the Scheduling Database project.
2) Using the most appropriate language or development technology, writes the code to produce the required application, upgrade, modification and/or enhancement. This code is used to produce templates, interactive website features (games, polls, etc.).
3) Analyzes user requests or specifications provided to determine the precise functionality demanded by other systems with which the intended application will interface and functionality demanded by the platform on which it is intended to operate. Interviews key users to ensure an accurate understanding of the requirements of the application, upgrade, modification and/or enhancement, as necessary.
4) Assists users in acceptance testing of newly developed application, modifications or upgrades.
5) Prepares complete documentation on the application, upgrade, modification or enhancement produced.
6) Establishes the software development process for the project in keeping with User Centered Design and other methodologies as appropriate.
7) Coordinates and oversees the work of other programmers on the project.
8) Estimates the effort and time required for development, tests, and implementation of projects.
9) Liaises with Project Leader to obtain regular reports on project status and schedule tracking.
10) Troubleshoots when problems arise with My CBC application.
11) Creates new concepts and designs in the programming language to meet the needs of varied users.
12) Participates in selection boards for other project programmers.
OBJECTIVE CRITERIA / CRITERES OBJECTIFS
1) A university degree or equivalent experience.
2) At least 5 years experience as a programmer, including at least 3 years experience working as the technical lead for a project or application.
3) Expert level knowledge of the J2EE platform (especially Servlets, JSP, JNDI and JAAS APIs)
4) Experience building applications on Unix platforms (preferably HP-UX)
5) Experience building applications with relational database technology, preferably Oracle 9i
6) Experience using tools such as ANT, JUnit, Jakarta Tomcat (3.3 and 4.1) CVS, and openLDAP.
7) Experience building personalization portals and directory services applications, UML modeling experience and use of design patterns an asset.
SUBJECTIVE CRITERIA / CRITERES SUBJECTIFS
1) Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
2) Ability to clearly explain objectives, requirements and directions to others.
3) Good interpersonal skills to ascertain appropriate measures when programming problems arise.
4) Good organizational skills.
5) Ability to quickly learn new technologies and disseminate information to other CBC personnel, including non-technical people.
6) Ability to exercise independent judgment.
7) Ability to conceptualize, visualize, prototype and design applications.
