Judaism

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛We live in a multicultural society, which has various religions. In our everyday lives, we will unavoidably meet diversified religion practitioners. Learning some of the religious traditions will be helpful and rewarding.

Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world, which has many rituals and celebrations. It is difficult for us to remember all of them. But at least we should know the “shabbat”. The shabbat, or “repose” follows six days of workday activity. It begins on Friday at sunset and continues until nightfall on Saturday. Work is prohibited during this time. So buying, selling and negotiating are all acknowledged as prohibited activities for Jews during this period.

My landlord is a Jew, and he runs a Jewelry store at my downstairs. One Saturday a native came to the store, and found it was closed. She knocked at my door and I told her about the Jewish shabbat. “Oh, I don’t know at all”, she surprised. I am not a native, but I pay attention to every detail. Never will I make a phone call to my landlord during the sabbath.

With the attention, I think we can build good relationship with all kinds of people, regardless of their beliefs or their cultural backgrounds.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • Are you saying that every week, from sunset on Friday till midnight Saturday, the Jews have their shabbat and do not work? Thank you.
    • 好. JOE LIEBMAN在和GORE竞选时, 就被问道这个问题: 如果他当选, 国家有紧急事项, 他是FOLLOW 他的传统, 还是国家利益. 补充一点, 不是所有的JEWS都这样做.
