I did see sharks on a few occasions, not only at the fish department of Chinese groceries. :D Saw small sharks, like one metre long, a few times. And whale shark from far away.

If human beings are very close to sharks without protection, do you think the small sharks (~1m long) can hurt people or not? Are the wetsuits strong enough to protect people from small sharks' attack?

There are many many types of shark, most of them are shy and don't want to mess up with humans. As far as I know, only big whites are dangerous.
