Being a self claimed 牛人,我对牛的理解。

In consulting business, the last thing the client needs is a technical guru, but can't articulate well, can't present well, can't bring value to their business.

At the beginning of the project, we should be a 5-year old: with curious eyes and an empty, open mind;
At the end of the project, we should be a 45 year old: mature, confident and trust worthy.

We should start as a real estate agent - ask questions, look for demands, identify opportunities;
We should finish as a doctor - prescribe the medicine and approaches or as a sales - selling values, products, and services;

Client needs to like us, trust us, and rely on us. We need to make sure the good return - the client should get what they paid us for.

In this whole process, technical skills may be required, but without logical thinking, right communication skills and showing value at the end, it is NOTHING!

So guys, forget about all the 牛 stuff, think about how to present and sell ourselves. At the end, we are all just a sales.

      • There is no point showing off to co-workers or clients, as long as your value is being recognized. Even if not, showing off is still not the solution. There is a fine line between being an expert, and being a bully.
    • 严重同意!但怎么才能提高交流、沟通技巧呢?尤其是语言还不怎么通。
      • Don't get hung up too much on language skills - it is merely an excuse. Good communication can happen through many channels. In my mind, how you think, and how you externalize your thinking process is the key.
        "speaking your mind" sounds easy, really not.

      • 呵呵,悟了好多年了。When it comes down to employment, there are only two questions 1) do they need you 2) can you afford you. So I am just trying to keep up and pay my mortgage.

        • At the beginning of the project, we should be a 5-year old and be a good listener as well. Listen and ask! Don't assume!!! I learnt a lot of my business knowledge from my business users.
