About patriotism

"patriotism" is more negative than positive in the history of mankind.

Look at our neighbor after 911.....How sad. The decisions to go to worthless wars were all made under the name of "patriotism".

In two or three years, people lost their capability of critical thinking. Whatever the government (Bush Administration) was doing was right, unchallenged.

Otherwise, you would be seen as a traitor.

Now US is living under that consequence forever. Bad decision!

"God and Country are an unbeatable team; they break all records for oppression and bloodshed." – Luis Buñuel

"Patriotism" is so much like religion - the two most destructive forces mankind has ever invented and to this day, few can challenge either without being targeted, humiliated, or silenced.

以上是自己花5分钟时间写的。Beat it.

    • Good writing, simple, concise, clear and easy to read. let alone English, actually it'll probably take me more than 5 minutes to write it in Chinese. no matter what language to use, it always takes time to organize words.
I'm slow, sometimes I write a long post, but it gets out very short, I cut a better part of it at the last moment, and it happens often
      • 我虽然开始没打算在这里发言,但最近也想这个问题。
        • From my perspective, it's not patriotism that America has been going downhill. it's Obama administration. 911 was a turning point, it triggered a reverage attack, Afghan war
, which I don't think you would turn the other cheek when someone slaps you on one cheek in your backyard, there still have been opportunites to turn the country around since 911. but Obama administration is not capable of doing anything. look at the gridlock at Washington, government shutdown, rocky rollout of health law, Ukraine crisis.
    • I now declare you are the winner! No one can beat you as yet.
    • Glad to see it's been restored.
    • I want to see comments from iamnotanangel(Wolf).
      • why?
Bro, are you having a problem with his comments on your piece? He was being rather reasonable with you in my opinion... If I were to give comments.... hehe....
        • I am fine with any comments. Why do you think I have problem with his, Sis? I just wanted to see some more...
          • Sure. Glad to know.
            • Some people are literally nice, but ... I doubt they are for real. I've never had any doubt on you my sis. You must be true :)
              • Are you sure?
                not truthful?
                • In this case they are same.
                  • OK I hear you.
                    • Somebody is literally bad, but ... I doubt he is for real.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛1. On the content.

“Patriotism” is a motivator, not a reason to go to the war.

US is an open society, where free speech is worshipped near a fetish. People did not lose their capability of critical-thinking; on the contrary, there were countless people who did not agree with their president. People around the world made jokes on Bush. However, it was the wish of the majority of American people that has led US to the wars against phantom enemies. At 911, there was uproar for accountabilities of the tragedy and an immediate action was demanded, because for the first time, terrorists have brought fight onto the terrain of US.

Personally, I don’t agree with those wars, but I think there were greater benefits of wars than not going into them, for those decisions were not made by Bush, but by his administration -groups of well informed experts.

I don’t believe that China will take over US as the world leader any time soon. This is a laughable wishful thinking from Chinese version of “patriotism”. I believe it when I see it, when Chinese stop moving their assets and kids to US or other industrialized countries. What people fail to see are the vitality, the creativeness and the adaptability of America. China will soon lose her economic dynamics as she is moving toward an aging society, with her own social, economic, systemic and demographic problems unseen in other countries. Therefore, in a foreseeable future, US will continue to lead, inspire and motivate people around the world.

        2. On the writing.
Choppy. Incoherent. Unconvincing. Grammatical error on the last sentence.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
        • OK I know it's real.
Because I saw the muscle guy's photo. By the way how long did it take you to write the little piece? Stream of consciousness...
          • Would that make you feel better if I say I'd spent two days and edited 10 times? :)
            • Yeah, of course.
I feel better if I see you here more than in the Garden of Eden.
              • I see. I am your bullet-proof jacket. Go to go. See you tomorrow. :)
        • in-depth thought and good writing, this is what I wanted to see... thank you.
          • Critical thinking
            • as well, yes
        • So far... 1.content, "...her own social, economic, systemic and demographic problems unseen in other countries" is not convincing since some others have same. 2.writing, "creativeness" to be replaced with creativity/ingenuity. More to come...
          • some others have THE same.
        • People did not lose their capability of critical-thinking; 【on the contrary】, there were countless people who did not agree with their president.
          • We use ON THE CONTRARY when we are disputing what has just been said and stating that the opposite is true.
            • So, better into one like this : Did people lose their capability of critical-thinking? On the contrary, there were countless people who did not...
        • 【At 911】, there was uproar for accountabilities of the tragedy
        • Some words...
"... majority of American people that has led US to the wars against phantom..."
          to
... majority of American people that HAD led US to the wars against phantom...

"...tragedy and an immediate action was demanded, because for the first time, terrorists have brought fight onto the terrain..."
          to
...tragedy and an immediate action was URGED, because for the first time, terrorists HAD brought fight onto the terrain...
        • Grammatical error 【on】 the last sentence. >>> in
        • {US is an open society, ...}, since the focus is on US, it's better to write People in the States made jokes... instead of using "People around the world".
          • or: People in the States (and other places in the world) made jokes...
        • The content of Paragraph 2 is a little insubstantial.
          • It appears to me that the context is not coherent. I'm afraid that there is probably a big gap between "I don’t agree with those wars" and "but I think there were greater benefits of wars than not going into them".
        • "when Chinese stop moving their assets and kids to US or other industrialized countries. " >>> "Chinese" here is not clear enough, better add an adj before it, like "when RICH Chinese stop...."
          • "moving their assets and kids to US", >>> moving their assets and SENDING kids to US;;; >>> transferring their assets and kids to
        • Yes. China is suffering from those so-called "social, economic, systemic and demographic problems" , but some other countries are suffering from their own "social, economic, systemic and demographic problems". From this point, countries are THE same.

                            • Is it proven that his comments are mostly wrong thus far? I can't really see. On the contrary BG's are often misguided.
                              • I think "misleading" is more fit here, but that doesn't mean I agree with ya. My view still remains.
                                • I hear you.
Would it be better to say " is more appropriate", "my view remains unchanged"? BG, what do you think?

                  • 探长啊,这个 pipe dream 又是查字典查出来的吧?又用错了,唉~~~
                    • On the contrary, I use the very phrase to emphasize the fact that you are always day dreaming or making your wishful thinking in vain.
                      • 有一坛友不理解上句。解释:you are always day dreaming or making your wishful thinking in vain. = you are always day dreaming...in vain + you are always making your wishful thinking in vain. 这里 your wishful thinking是名词短语诶~!

          • Smart thinking, smooth and good flow of conversation, casual yet proper English writing with good command of the language.
            • Nice... but not sure which post(s) you were commenting on.
And I was hoping to see you join the debate, in addition to commenting on the writing.
              • I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I was referring to Mike Smith's piece. In terms of joining in this particular debate I have my observations. Discussing hot political topics normally won't get you a happy ending.
Therefore I opt myself out of the discussion.
                • Be honest, you've got no thoughts on this topic
                  • I hear you.
                • "....get you a happy ending." ---- R u sure it is a correct sentence?
