True. It could be a big trouble if you lose your passport when you are traveling overseas.

I met an Australian girl in Ecuador. She was robbed and her passport was taken. She had to seek help from Canadian Embassy as there was no Australian Embassy in Ecuador.
Always keep a hard & soft copy, this will at least help expedite the replacement process.
