It's Autumn! The temperature has been getting colder. Maple leaves have been turning to yellow,

red, etc. But some of tomatoes in my backyard are still green, and also the most of red ones were damaged by animals. At the end of growing season, how to make these green tomatoes becoming red and also avoid animals' bites? I have started a small test: Picked tomatoes from garden when they were in good condition but green. Then put them into food grade plastic bags where the bottom layer filled with ripened but still fresh apples (or/and bananas). Kept the bags tied or closed loosely but not sealed, and stored the bags at room temperature. After a few days or one week, the tomatoes started to turn red from green gradually.

      • Great experiment! I heard that if you leave it with higher temperature it'll be even better.
        • Thanks. I guess if the storage temperature is higher than room temperature, the tomatoes may be not fresh anymore when it's the time for me to eat them. It will take a few weeks for me to consume the amount of picked tomatoes.
    • After staying with ripened gala apples in room temperature for several days, these tomatoes changed their colors from pure green to partial red or pure red. +1

      • Now I'm doing the same thing.
        • Wish you success. 😁
