It's nice to have more festival opportunities.

People express their gratitude and celebrate their lives through festivals. I believe people get more happiness from celebrating of festivals. I will start to celebrate it next year. Do you celebrate summer solstice as well?😄

    • Hi Sailor,
Happy Winter Solstice 😄! You made beautiful rice flour - black sesame dumplings. They look delicious and healthy 👍. I didn't know that some people celebrate Winter Solstice and eat rice flour dumplings or wheat flour dumplings on this day until I found it from the media last year. But I still haven't celebrated it yet since I have no impression of this festival and i don't check lunar calendar regularly. I eat rice flour dumplings every Lantern Festival.😊
      • Thanks! BTW, solstices are about the solar system. The dates are basically fixed in a solar calender. 😊 +1
        • Good to know about that. I will learn more about that when I get time. Thanks!
          • The traditional Chinese calendar is a lunar calendar, based on how the Moon orbits the Earth.
So the first day in a lunar month is always the new moon day, and the 15th is the full moon day.

Solstices are based on how the Earth orbits the Sun. Since the Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees from the plane of its orbit, there is a day in a year that the relative angle of the sunlight becomes maximum, and a day for the mimimum one.
            • Appreciate your explanation! 😊
    • How many years have you celebrated Winter Solstice Festival for? Since your childhood?
      • It's a tradition of Teochew culture. We always have rice balls on that day.

          • In the old days, holidays are the times that people can indulge themselves a bit because there was usually lack of materials and resources. Summer solstice: yes! It's now the International Yoga Day.
            • As such, summer is also the best season for yoga? 😁
              • Not sure...
