Nobody can guarantee your stocks will not be curt in half. But you can reduce the probabilities for that. Here are some rules of thumb

1. Do not trade peny stocks
2. Do not go long with bio stocks
3. Do not short sell the stocks that are A &M targets
4. .....
5. ....

Finally, trade ETFs that are in the uptrend. Here are two examples: PBW and DBA.
