I don't take it as bad news in a sense that Chinese Canadians probably have found better and more efficient manners to get in touch with their own culture and get their own words spread out.

Same feeling here. No idea who are in charge of the purchase and distribution of Chinese books, CDs and videos, and not quite sure of their understanding of what Chinese culture means.

What I have observed is to the opposite of what you are afraid of. Just because not so many Chinese are using the library like before doesn't necessarily indicate the influence will be minimized gradually.

I think It's a reminder or a symbol of the Chinese culture, which is different from western's. China's influence in the world are getting bigger but mostly from low cost merchandise, and lavish spending, not from the cultural side.

A few years ago, I tried to learn how to cook Chinese food and got one Chinese cookbook in the library published in 2005. Speechless. No idea where our tax dollars gone.
