For major in finance, my experience is that getting some good internship experience is very helpful. Look for reputable firms in finance/investment field, and try to stand out during internship.

Communication is very important. In my firm, at least half of portfolio managers and anaysts are former summer interns. Maybe it's our company culture. Just my two cents.
