Human's biggest fear is to be alone. so we do all things we can do to avoid the fear and fill the void. We look for new partners when the old relationships don't work anymore, we say we are social animals that we must find companions. Ironically, out of the fear, whatever we can get won't sustain. We will lose them eventually. Only when we get rid of the fear, may we find peace and in peace and joy, the things we wanted in the first place will show up, but we don't care about them anymore.
