Nice to listen to them. But I haven't listened to all of the 24 songs yet since I paused to search the songbook corresponding to the 5th song (Xiao He Tang Shui) when I just finished my listening of it.

This is one of my favorites too! When I was a teenager, I didn't know that I was actually a bass, always trying to sing this one. But obviously it's better for tenors.

The melody reminded me to search more info about the song, because I had a little bit impression that this song was good (but I almost forgot about all the details of the song). I immediately searched for the song. Amazing! I love it so much!

One thing I still don't understand is that, the lyric seems irrelevant to the title. But why?

One of the setting in the story of this Yun Nan folk song is used as the name of the song. The whole picture is like this: under the silver moonlight, there are high mountains with forests; beside the bottom of the mountains there is a small river or creek; it's so quiet except the small river makes a sound of flowing water. (To be continued in next paragraph)

This romantic scenery triggers the A Mei,a bright and beautiful girl, the very strong feeling of missing her A Ge, her deeply loved boyfriend who is in the high and deep mountain. Then, the A Mei uses her sweet and soft voice and the beautiful melody to deliver her deep love to the A Ge, and she also wishes the flowing water in the small river can help her to pass her love to the A Ge. That's my understanding. Do you think it make sense?

There is also another version of the story regarding the song. That's a sad story. The river bank is the place the girl seeing off for the boy. I would rather believe the version I wrote.

By the melody, it doesn't appear to be a sad story. :)

I hope the sad story in our world is as few as possible. 🙏

I have listened to the song for many times. There are many different versions, also performed by different singers. So far I like the version performed by Chen Sisi the most. The feeling was so good whenever I listened to it. Thanks for your post. I will continue to listen to the rest.

My theory is that, if a song can last hundreds of years, it must be an excellent one. :)
