Dear Professional Engineers,

It is election time at the PEO! Candidates are campaigning and it is time for our 90,000 P.Eng’s to get out, check the candidates platforms and ask them tough questions!

Some candidates are biting the drum, calling for a “mandatory” PEAK & CPD, without holding any referendum, and yet themselves are afraid of writing a “standard test”, like PE to prove their technical competency.

The only competency test, meaningful to the public (and to employers) would be a standard PE test, like the tests held in the US; Not a money-grab PEAK luncheon and learn, to pretend competency, and raise money for the course providers!

Ask those candidates who are calling for mandatory (pay out-of-pocket) PEAK if they are willing to write the PE test? That would be the ultimate standard that the public deserves.
